Dog walking in Strassen

Houses, gardens and the Bambësch within reach, for households that leave before eight and come back after six.

One walker, never a group. Photo and written report after every visit, usually within ten minutes of leaving your home.

Houses, gardens and the forest at the top of the hill

Strassen is one of the easiest places in the country to keep a dog, which is part of why so many families with dogs end up here. Houses with gardens, calmer streets than the city centre, a large international population, and the Bambësch forest within reach for a proper walk.

The catch is the commute. A great many households here work in the city or on the Kirchberg, which means leaving early, returning late, and a dog whose garden is the only thing it sees between breakfast and dinner.

Where we walk

The Bambësch and the woodland to the north. Forest tracks, varied ground, shade in summer and the kind of sniffing that genuinely tires a dog. This is the walk that changes a dog's evening, and it belongs in a sixty-minute booking rather than a rushed forty-five.

The residential streets and green strips. Perfectly good for a midday break: gardens, hedges, low traffic during working hours, and enough to keep an older dog interested without asking too much of it.

The fields and paths on the edges of the commune. Open ground for dogs that need distance, quiet on weekdays, and a good place for long-line work with a dog whose recall is still being built.

Things worth knowing here

  • Route d'Arlon. Fast, busy and not a walking route. Dogs on a short lead anywhere near it, and nervous dogs never taken along it
  • Gardens and gates. Checked every visit and noted in the report. A dog that has learned it can push a gate will do it again
  • Ticks and grass seeds. Forest edges and long grass are exactly where both are found. Every dog is checked by hand after those walks, and anything found is reported with the date
  • Hunting season. In the woods, signs are respected and dogs stay close on the marked routes

The usual booking

Here the sixty-minute walk is more common than the standard forty-five, because the forest is worth the extra fifteen minutes. Families frequently combine three or four weekday walks with overnight care during school holidays, when the whole neighbourhood seems to travel at once. Book those weeks early: they fill first.
